Licensed clinical psychologist offering in-person psychotherapy for adults in Washington, D.C.

Services

  • Free Consultation

I offer an initial, 15-minute phone consultation to discuss what’s bringing you to therapy and determine whether I would be a good fit as your therapist. I will also provide an overview of my fees, since I am an out-of-network provider. If either of us believes that you could be better assisted by another therapist, I can provide a referral.

  • Initial Evaluation

Our first session will consist of a 60-minute review of your medical, psychological, social, educational, work, and family histories, which will allow me to assess your needs and consider your treatment options. We may need a few sessions to determine whether we are the best fit.

  • Individual Psychotherapy

At minimum, we will look to schedule weekly, 45-minute sessions. Longer-term treatment is encouraged. (See "Beyond Symptom Reduction: Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Gets Empirical Backing")

ABOUT ME

I am a licensed clinical psychologist based in Washington, D.C., offering long-term individual psychotherapy to adults seeking support to address difficulties in their lives.

Before establishing my private practice in 2018, I worked with college students at Georgetown University and George Washington University for several years. I have also trained with specialists in anxiety disorders during my time working at The Ross Center in D.C. I am invested in ongoing learning through long-term consultation groups, am certified in Level I Sensorimotor psychotherapy, and regularly attend local and national psychoanalytic trainings.

I enjoy working with a variety of presenting issues and specialize in concerns related to sexual orientation and gender identity. As a former competitive athlete and trauma-trained therapist, I pay special attention to the mind-body connection. I also strive to create a non-judgmental space for clients to voice and emotionally process experiences of discrimination, marginalization, and abuse, whether the oppressed or the oppressor.

MY APPROACH

Contemporary psychodynamic/psychoanalytic therapy, as well as body-oriented mindfulness-based techniques, provide a foundation for how I understand the mind and how we function in relationships, both with ourselves and others. I tailor treatment holistically to meet your unique challenges and leverage your strengths, equipping you with the tools to live with greater intentionality and authenticity.

Treatment requires a high level of engagement and dedication from both the therapist and the client. While this work can be challenging, I am committed to helping my clients distinguish patterns and strategies that may have served them in previous environments, yet may not be serving them currently. Therapy works best when there is an openness to becoming curious together about the barriers and defenses that are getting in your way.

Given that therapy occurs within a relationship, the therapy relationship can be a powerful tool in examining interpersonal dynamics, and I will often encourage clients to explore this together. Warmth, humor, and compassion are essential to helping my clients feel comfortable enough in the therapy hour to explore their vulnerabilities, allowing them to take important risks in their lives.

No one has grave difficulties in living if [they] have a very good grasp of what is happening.
